The first pioneers settled in the area now known as Bellevue in 1882. Azarie Gareau was the very first French-Canadian of the pioneers to build his homestead in the area. He loved the land and was satisfied with his decision to settle in the area. The agricultural land in the region has long ago been recognized as some of the best in Canada. Mr. Gareau managed to recruit other farmers to the area from Quebec and at the turn of the century more pioneers from France decided to make the Bellevue area their home.
